Stretton on Fosse |
Stretton on Fosse is a lovely village situated just off the Roman Road, the Fosse Way and is approximately 4 miles from both Chipping Campden and Moreton in Marsh…a perfect location for exploring the beautiful Cotswolds. It is also only 12 miles from historic Stratford upon Avon – in easy reach for going to see a play at The Royal Shakespeare Theatre and visiting William Shakespeare’s birthplace.
An attractive village, steeped in medieval history, Stretton on Fosse was mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086, formerly housing two manors, at one time owned by King William the Conqueror and King Henry VIII. St Peter’s church was rebuilt in 1841 in the Decorated style. The village is a mix of 17th century Cotswold stone farms and cottages, with later red brick dwellings.
The Plough Inn, an 18th Century cosy village pub, serves delicious home cooked food and real ale. The chef is French, the atmosphere lovely, and the friendly locals will be sure to give you a warm welcome.
Excellent walks across stunning countryside are plentiful, and horse riding, clay pigeon shooting, hawking, falconry and many other sports are available locally.
