No, it doesn’t always snow in Mickleton but it is such a rare occurrence we thought you might enjoy these winter scenes, taken the first week of February 2007.
On the B4632 Between Stratford upon Avon and Chipping Campden – where the Cotswolds and Shakespeare Country meet.
The village of Micketon lies immediately beneath the Cotswold edge overlooked by Meon Hill. With a mixture of attractive Cotswold stone houses and cottages in addition to those of thatch and half-timber, it is the most northerly of the Cotswold villages. The oldest part of St Lawrence’s Church is Norman, dating from the 12 century and has been added to and restored since. There are many items in the church from different ages which are well worth seeing.
Ideally situated, with Chipping Campden only 3 miles away to the south and Stratford upon Avon only 15 minutes to the north. In the village there are four shops. A village shop with post office, a mini supermarket, the butcher and several farm stalls for fresh vegetables for the 'Foodies' amongst you.'
Also in the village are two pubs which serve meals. One of them, The Kings Arms, has its own website www.kingsarmsmickleton.co.uk The other is the Butchers Arms which does very good, reasonably priced food and also food to take away.
Mickleton is also home to "The Pudding Club" at Three Ways House Hotel (as featured on BBC's Food and Drink and Holiday programmes as well as numerous other TV, radio and press articles). You do not need to be a member so why not book an evening there during your stay? www.puddingclub.com
There are plenty of walks in the area, including a 30 minute hill walk to Kiftsgate Gardens and 5 minutes further on to the National Trusts’ world renowned Hidcote Gardens.
For those that enjoy cycling there is a traffic free cycle ride to Stratford –upon-Avon via 'The Greenway' and numerous quiet lanes around Mickleton to explore. Cycles can be hired from Cotswold Cycles, just 2 miles away. www.cotswoldcountrycycles.com
With Stratford upon Avon and Shakespeare country so close, why not enjoy an evening at the theatre? www.rsc.org.uk
