Bretforton is an attractive village situated 5 miles from Chipping Campden and 14 miles from Stratford. With the advantage of being off the main road it is a peaceful, quiet village with many old stone cottages, some of which are thatched. The Ashwin family owned Bretforton Manor and much of the village, including Wisteria Cottage, was part of their estate. St Leonard’s Church, Bretforton is a Grade I listed church building and dates from the late 13th century with medieval and some later additions.
The 554 bus runs from Evesham, stopping in Bretforton, to Chipping Campden
The nearest railway station is Honeybourne (2 miles) or Evesham (5 miles).
There is a well stocked village shop with post office selling newspapers, fresh fruit and vegetables and local produce.
The Fleece Inn, Bretforton was owned by the Byrd family since the days of Chaucer (until it was bequeathed to the National Trust in 1977). The building was originally a longhouse and has remained largely undisturbed in its architecture and atmosphere since the 17th century. It is a pub steeped in history and serves some fine real ales (2006 CAMRA Worcestershire pub of the year) and food. You will even notice the medieval protection of witchlines drawn on the floor to prevent witches entering from down the chiminey.
