Access Statement

Silk Cottage, Blockley, Gloucestershire, GL56 9BT

 

Introduction

Silk Cottage has one bedroom and is one of four cottages built in the 19th century to house the Silk Mill workers.  The nearby Silk Mill was converted to apartments but the area still maintains its historic feel.  The cottage is in the heart of the village of Blockley, in the north Cotswold area.  The following is a statement of what Silk Cottage has to offer but if you have further questions please do not hesitate to contact www.campdencottages.co.uk or call 01386 593315

 

Pre-Arrival
 
• There is a bus stop by the village green, approximately 150 yards from the cottage, served by buses from Moreton-in-Marsh and Chipping Campden.  All enquiries / bookings are handled by Campden Cottages.  They have an extensive web site which includes much useful local information as well as a page for Silk Cottage showing photos and a full description.

 

  • Bookings / enquiries can be made via email, fax or phone
  • Once the final payment is made, directions are sent to you which include the postcode
  • The no 21/22 bus runs from Moreton in Marsh to Stratford on Avon via Blockley, Chipping Campden, Broadway and the bus stop is by the village green, approximately 150 yards from the cottage.  There is a link to the timetable under Local Information / Transport on the Campden Cottages web page. There are no buses on Sundays or Bank Holidays
  • The nearest railway station is Moreton in Marsh which is approximately 4 miles away. It is on the main line from London Paddington to Worcester.  There is a bridge ramp for wheelchair access. 
  • Taxis are not always waiting at the station and you are advised to book a taxi in advance.
  • We can provide information in large print on request

  • Arrival time:  4.00pm onwards
  • Departure time:  By 10.00am
  • The cottage is not suitable for babies in arms or for children
  • No dogs unless previously arranged with Campden Cottages
  • In the village of Blockley there is a small shop combining cafe and post office, one hotel and one public house all within walking distance of Briar Cottage
  • Approximate distances from Blockley: Moreton in Marsh 4 miles, Chipping Campden 3 miles, Stratford upon Avon 12 miles,  Cheltenham 20 miles

 

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
 
• Arrival time is anytime after 4pm, unless prior arrangement.  Please vacate by 10am
• Silk cottage and the neighbouring cottages and apartments are served by a shared parking area, 25 metres from the steps to the cottage.
• There are 5 steps and a slope of 18 metres (with a width of 0.8m) to the entrance to the garden of silk cottage and a further 2 metres to the front door.  The cottage has one entrance only.

 
• There is a keysafe to the left of the front door, approximately 0.3m from the ground.  Details of the keysafe will be given to you with your booking information.

• If coming in the evening or at night, bring a torch to be able to see the keysafe

 

Places to Eat in the Village

 

• See “Shop” heading for café details.

• There is a pub next to the cottage.  It is on higher ground and cannot be seen from the cottage (nor the cottage overlooked).  The pub itself is set on Station Road, a distance away from the cottage with a long car park that adjoins the border of the cottage grounds. The pub is accessed by walking a short distance along the adjoining road to Station Road.  This pub has a restaurant menu as well as serving take-away meals.

 

 

Main Entrance & Reception
 
The door to the property is 1.74m high x 0.83m wide.  Entry is directly into the kitchen area.  This area has a ceramic tiled floor.  Ahead there are 2 doors, one to the upstairs and one to the bathroom.  Through the right hand door there is an understairs cupboard which houses a washing machine and 2 spare chairs.

 

 

 

Self-Catering Kitchen

 

• The kitchen measures approximately 3.45m x 2.85m.  It has a light ceramic floor with light walls and beamed ceiling.  The skirtings and doors are of dark stained wood.
• In the kitchen there is a dishwasher, an electric cooker, a small fridge and a microwave.  The gas central heating boiler is located in the kitchen.  There is main lighting, under wall unit lighting and lighting in the cooker hood. 

• The worktop height is 0.89m.  The fridge size is 0.6 x 0.5m.

• There are 2 main light switches at a height of 1.3m.  One is behind the door to the right, the other is on the wall just in front of the door to the stairs.
• Utensils are housed in the cupboard below the sink, glasses, mugs and tea towels in the cupboards above the sink and crockery in the open shelves to the right above the sink.  Tea, coffee and sugar can be found on the shelf above the crockery.
• The cooker has a four-ring hob and a fan oven which also has a grill.
• The gas boiler will be set to automatic prior to the start of your holiday.  If you need to change this, please see the information provided.
• Please be environmentally-friendly and switch off sockets when leaving, except the boiler, fridge and oven.

 

Stairs to First Floor

 

The stairway door measures 1.78m x 0.73m.  There are 10 steps to the lounge.  There is a handrail on the left hand side.  There are 5 steps which cover a 90? angle and 5 further steps which each have a height of 0.22m and a depth of 0.25m.

Lounge

• On the 1st floor of the property, accessed by going through the left hand door from the kitchen and up stairs, is the lounge. 
• There is a landing area 0.8m x 0.85m.  The lounge door is on the right and measures 1.87m x 0.73m.

• There is a double light switch outside the lounge door for the lower stairway light and the upper stairway light.

• The light switch for the lounge is located on the right hand wall just inside the doorway.  It is a height of 1.22m.
• There is a wood burning stove.  This will be left ready to use, please see instructions provided. 

• Digital flat screen TV with Freeview and remote control.  The TV digital aerial must be switched on in the bedroom.  This is located on the top floor on the wall opposite the door to the left of the radiator.
• There is a 1.2m wide sofa bed.  There is also a wooden chair and a coffee table.

• The flooring is original wood (dark stained) with a large light rug.  The walls are light in colour with dark stained wooden skirtings and beamed ceiling.

 

Laundry
 
• A small washing machine which takes a 3kg load is located in the cupboard under the stairs on the ground floor.  There is a washing line on the green area at the front of the cottage which is covered with a protective cover with the number '1' on it.  Pegs are located in the cupboard to the left of the cooker.

 

Shop
 
• There is a village shop on the opposite side of the village green, about a 5 minute walk away.  There is also a café serving snacks, lunches and breakfasts.  The café offers free broadband internet access (take your own laptop).

Bedrooms
 
• There is one bedroom with a double bed on the top (2nd) floor.  There are 10 steps from the lounge to the bedroom, 4 of which measure 0.22m high x 0.25m deep.  The top 6 stairs cover a 90
? angle.  At the top of the stairs as well as a handrail to the left there is a grab pole to the right to enable safety as there is a sharp bend.  The stair width at the narrowest point is 0.67m.

• The door to the bedroom measures 1.87m x 0.73m. 

• The light switch is located on the lefthand side on entering the bedroom.  It is at a height of 1.45m.

• The bedroom has a small double wardrobe with drawers, a four-drawer chest, a dressing table, a chair, 2 bedside cabinets with bedside lamps and a remote-controlled TV. 

• The floor of the bedroom is original wood which has been restored and stained.  There are 2 small bedside rugs.  The bedroom ceiling slopes into the eaves but has full height to all areas of the room with extended height in the middle of the room.

 

 

Bathroom, Shower-room & WC [Ensuite or Shared]
 
• The bathroom is located on the ground floor behind the kitchen.  The right hand door from the kitchen leads to a small lobby and a further door to the bathroom.  The doorway measures 1.86m x 0.55m.
• The bath measures 1.46m x 0.68m x 0.57m (height).  There is a shower attachment to the bath.  There is a sink which has a height of 0.79m and a toilet with a height of 0.42m.  The toilet area measures 0.55m wide.

 

Grounds and Gardens
 
• There is a small garden area at the front of the property.  This has a table with 2 chairs.  There is a green area outside of the garden which can be used also.  

• Silk cottage is set in communal grounds which are well-kept.  Within the grounds there is a communal car park.  The stream which runs through the village, and was the source of power for the Silk Mills, runs through the grounds.
• There are 2 fold-up relaxing chairs in the cupboard under the stairs on the 1st floor (lounge).

 

Additional Information

• Silk cottage has 'No Smoking'

• No pets allowed.

• Mobile phone reception is best (but still poor) is on the 1st and 2nd floors.
