Access Statement For Briar Cottage, Blockley

Introduction

Briar Cottage is a 19th Century workers cottage in the village of Blockley.  It is rented out as a holiday home through Campden Cottages.  The accommodation provides kitchen, sitting/dining room, 2 bedrooms, one bathroom and one shower-room. The cottage is fully carpeted except in the kitchen/utility which is tiled and in the bathroom which has sealed wood flooring

 

We have tried to provide as much information as possible in this statement, if you have any queries please do call. 

Pre-Arrival


All enquiries / bookings are handled by Campden Cottages.  They have an extensive web site which includes much useful local information as well as a page for Briar Cottage showing photos and a full description.

 

  • Bookings / enquiries can be made via email, fax or phone
  • Once the final payment is made, directions are sent to you which include the postcode
  • The no 21/22 bus runs from Moreton in Marsh to Stratford on Avon via Blockley, Chipping Campden, Broadway and the bus stop is at the end of the road, approximately 500 yards away.  There is a link to the timetable under Local Information / Transport on the Campden Cottages web page. There are no buses on Sundays or Bank Holidays
  • The nearest railway station is Moreton in Marsh which is approximately 4 miles away. It is on the main line from London Paddington to Worcester.  There is a bridge ramp for wheelchair access. 
  • Taxis are not always waiting at the station and you are advised to book a taxi in advance.
  • We can provide information in large print on request
  • Sheila Rolland is the proprietor of Campden Cottages and lives locally.  She is on hand should you have any queries or need help and can be contacted on the Campden Cottages telephone number. 
  • Arrival time:  4.00pm onwards
  • Departure time:  By 10.00am
  • The cottage is suitable for babies in arms but not for children under 3 years
  • No dogs unless previously arranged with Campden Cottages
  • In the village of Blockley there is a small shop combining cafe and post office, one hotel and one public house all within walking distance of Briar Cottage
  • Approximate distances from Blockley: Moreton in Marsh 4 miles, Chipping Campden 3 miles, Stratford upon Avon 12 miles,  Cheltenham 20 miles

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
 

  • Directions and instructions for the keys are sent to you as soon as the final payment has been made
  • Parking is on the road outside cottage

 

Main Entrance

  • 76cm wide front door leads direct from the pavement into sitting room. There is a stone slab directly in front of the door, 1cm high. Wooden threshold bar 5cm. Door hinged to the right. 
  • Chubb door lock 95cm from ground and yale lock 129cm from ground
  • Light switches are behind the door at 139cm height

  

Sitting Room with Dining Area

 

  • Size of room 5.62m x 3.7m
  • Inset coir door mat directly inside front door 75cm wide
  • There are four 20 cm steps down from the Sitting room to the Kitchen.  Width 68cm (no handrail)
  • Fitted carpet throughout the sitting room with large rug
  • Sitting area contains
    • 2-seater sofa 35cm height to top of seat
    • Easy chair with arms 45cm height to top of seat
    • Easy chair with arms 39cm height to top of seat
  • Dining area contains table and four chairs.  Table height 60cm.  Dining chairs 50cm high except carver chair 47cm height
  • Another double light switch is at bottom of stairs at 131cm height for sitting room and upstairs lights.  There are two central light pendants (3 lights) on each and additional lamps
  • Smoke alarm on ceiling near bottom of stairs

Stairs and Landing

 
  • There are 4 steps 20cm high down from the Sitting Room to the Kitchen
  • Dimmer light to Kitchen 137cm high from 2nd step 
 

Stairs lead from the sitting room to the first floor landing

  • Staircase 69cm wide with banisters to the right as you go up the straight bit of stairs, then a rail on the wall facing you at the top of the stairs, where the stairs bend.  There are 12 steps 20cm high, tread depth 24cm with a 90degree turn at the top.  7 steps are straight. On the bend the narrowest step tread goes from 30cm down to 5cm deep
  • Landing 2.63m long a 1.60 wide (narrowing to 80cm wide where there is a cupboard)
  • Bannister height alongside stairwell 86cm
  • Fire extinguisher low down on wall to right of cupboard
  • Smoke alarm on ceiling
  • Double light for bathroom and landing 132cm high
